UPUA Provides Funding For Mental Health & Wellness Week, Women’s Empowerment Roundtable

The 16th Assembly of the University Park Undergraduate Association met for the last time before Thanksgiving break.

The meeting began with a few special presentations. The first was a New Student Orientation presentation led by Amy Garry. The other presentation was about Giving Tuesday, delivered by Joseph Banuelos.

Then, President Erin Boas and Vice President Najee Rodriguez gave their reports. After that, the assembly dived into New Business for the evening.

New Business

The first piece of New Business was the confirmation of two new At-Large Representatives: Giselle Concepcion and Melissa Trochez. Both were successfully confirmed and sworn into the assembly along with new College of Communications representative Owen Haddad.

The first bill brought up was Bill 16-16, which focused on funding for Mental Health & Wellness Week. The funding would total $4,825 and cover components of a care package and funding for the Red Gala, which is hosted by Delta Sigma Theta sorority. The event aims to raise money for HIV prevention resources. Bill 16-16 passed 36-1-0.

Bill 17-16 focused on funding UPUA’s Women’s Empowerment Roundtable and its corresponding website. The site would cost $144 in total to maintain the website for 12 months. Bill 17-16 passed unanimously.

The final bill of the evening, Bill 18-16, was also connected to the Women’s Empowerment Roundtable. The bill called for fundraising for the Women’s Empowerment Meet & Greet. The funding would go toward catering for the event, which would total $557.70. Bill 18-16 passed unanimously.
