Micah Parsons & Shaka Toney’s Parents Swap Jerseys After NFL Game
As a sign of respect and peer recognition, NFL players are known to swap jerseys with one another in the post-game chaos. There has been no shortage of Penn State jersey swapping this year, which comes as no surprise given the amount of Nittany Lions in the NFL currently.
After this weekend’s matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Football Team, two parents of Penn State alumni decided to get in on the fun. Deborah Toney-Moore, mother of Washington defensive end Shaka Toney, and Terrence Parsons, father of Dallas linebacker Micah Parsons, hosted a jersey swap of their own in the stands.
Both players were impactful for their teams as the Cowboys fended off a late opposing comeback to beat Washington 27-20 in the NFC East matchup.
Toney made his first NFL start this weekend after four Washington defensive ends found themselves on either the injury list or the COVID-19 list. Coming into the game, the seventh-round draft pick had played on just 33 individual snaps on the season.
This time, 61% of Washington’s defensive snaps included Toney, who made the most of his opportunity. Throughout the game, Toney recorded an early career-high of four tackles and landed a hit on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
Parsons continued his streak of dominant performances against the battered Washington offense. The product of “LBU” recorded three tackles, another two sacks, and a forced fumble. He almost added an interception to his season stats when he narrowly dropped a deflected pass.
Seemingly having NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year locked up at this point, Parsons is now earning buzz for NFL Defensive Player of the Year from legitimate voices around the league. If he were to do so, he would become the first in league history to achieve that as a rookie since legend Lawrence Taylor.
The two rookies (and their parents) will meet again in Dallas’ AT&T Stadium on December 26.
