Safety Trace Brown Commits To Penn State Football As Preferred Walk-On

Penn State football has added another defensive player to its long list of highly touted recruits.

Safety Trace Brown, out of Berks Catholic High School, announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions as a preferred walk run-on via his Twitter account Wednesday afternoon.

The Reading, Pa. resident participated in developmental camps with other universities such as Cincinnati, Temple, and Villanova, before officially opting to join Penn State.

Brown put in a productive senior season for his high school football team, recording 77 tackles, four pass defenses, an interception, and a caused fumble. Brown’s contributions were not confined to the defensive side of the ball, though. The Penn State prospect also picked up 38 rushing yards on four carries, 50 receiving yards on six catches (including a touchdown), and 174 return yards on 15 kickoff and punt returns.

The commitment from Brown serves to further bolster Penn State’s 2022 recruit class that ranks among the nation’s highest and boasts prominent prospects like Drew Allar, Nicholas Singleton, and Kaden Saunders.

Brown is set to join Cristian Driver, Cam Miller, KJ Winston, and Tyrece Mills as the Nittany Lions’ newest additions to the defensive back squad, a position group that is set to lose potential first-round safety Jaquan Brisker to the NFL Draft.
