State College Raising Cane’s Expecting April Opening

State College’s Raising Cane’s restaurant expects to open its doors in April 2022, the franchise said this weekend.

On Sunday, Raising Cane’s declined to provide a specific opening date, noting that “other factors,” including possible changes in construction schedules, could affect the restaurant’s development. The Louisiana-based chicken fingers franchise is currently setting up shop at 228 E. College Ave. in downtown State College.

Back in October, a new sign in the storefront’s window said Raising Cane’s was hiring for its State College location. Currently, Raising Cane’s has open job listings for operations managers and shift managers available online.

When it originally announced a move to State College over the summer, Raising Cane’s needed to clear a few zoning ordinances to meet modern requirements in the 105-year-old building. Among them included installing an outdoor ramp to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Raising Cane’s did not offer a comment on renovations within its State College location. According to its initial application for a building permit filed in May, Raising Cane’s needed to perform an estimated $1.6 million in renovations to the building’s first story.

Raising Cane’s has amassed more than 500 locations across the country, but State College would be the chain’s first restaurant in Pennsylvania. The franchise’s famously limited menu features chicken fingers, signature sauces, Texas toast, fries, and more.
