Penn State Basketball Needs A Free Throw Gimmick

For any Philadelphia 76ers fans out there, you are all aware of the second half tradition known as the Wendy’s “Frosty Freeze-Out.”

If you’re unaware, the Frosty Freeze-Out is simply a promotion hosted by the 76ers and the Wells Fargo Center. Anyone in the Philadelphia tri-state area is eligible to receive a free small Frosty the next day if the opposing team misses two straight second-half free throws.

A Frosty is great, but the crowd participation that comes from the promotion is the real star. That got us thinking…Why doesn’t Penn State basketball have a similar promotion or incentive at the Bryce Jordan Center? To help out the marketing team, our staff got to work to brainstorm some ideas.

Free Small Milkshake Or Ice Cream

This one did not take much thought since it’s very similar to the original Frosty Freeze-Out. In this scenario, if an opponent were to miss consecutive free throws, either Sheetz or the Creamery would give out free small milkshakes or ice cream to anyone who references the Bryce Jordan Center freeze out.

One Free Penn State Eats Order

This idea’s a little more advanced than the previous concept but still on-brand with the idea of the Frosty Freeze-Out. Instead of a free milkshake, everyone in attendance for a failed trip to the free-throw line will receive a free meal voucher for any meal item (entree) and a small fountain drink through Penn State’s mobile ordering app.

Free Tickets To A Future Bryce Jordan Center Event

The great thing about the Frosty Freeze-Out is that it gives an opportunity for all fans, even those not in attendance at the game, to benefit from an opponent’s woes at the charity stripe. While this promotion might not be as inclusive, the reward is far greater for one fan in particular. A failed trip to the free-throw line here would result in any fan in attendance receiving a free pair of tickets to any future Bryce Jordan Center event of their choosing. That could be pretty darn exciting with Billie Eilish, WWE, Slipknot, The Killers, and more headed to the arena over the next year.

Gift Certificate To The Penn State Bookstore

Let’s be honest: Buying textbooks each and every semester is aggravating. From long lines in the store, the constant emails reminding you to buy your textbooks, and the steep textbook prices, a nice reward from Penn State and the Bryce Jordan Center would go a long way. A generous $100 gift certificate to the bookstore for any random fan in the student section would make for a good enough “thank you” from the team.

Free LineLeap Pass

Nobody likes waiting in long lines, and everybody likes to see the opposition miss free throws. In this giveaway, you get the best of both worlds.

Same idea as before, if an opponent were to miss two consecutive free throws everyone in attendance would receive one free LineLeap Pass to any participating downtown pub, bar, club, and so on. You shouldn’t have to go through the misfortune of waiting in an extremely long line just to have a fun night out with friends. But, that is more often the case than not in downtown State College. This very helpful and time preserving giveaway goes a long way in shaving multiple hours of stress and potentially the early stages of hypothermia off of someone’s Friday night.

Free Use Of Micah Shrewsberry’s Personal Golf Cart For One Week

We all know that many of the big athletic coaches at Penn State, most notably James Franklin, have access to a personal golf cart that they may use to ride around campus whenever they’d like. Earlier this year, first-year Men’s Basketball head coach, Micah Shrewsberry, took a ride around campus on his golf cart to get fans excited for the upcoming season.

As a fun and much less practical giveaway, the team and the Bryce Jordan Center should provide access to Micah Shrewsberry’s very own golf cart for one week to a student in attendance, giving this student a much easier form of transportation to and from class.

A One-Day Contract

Very simple yet so impossible. We are sure that some of you out there have wondered what a day in the life is like for a Penn State athlete. Well, in this very exclusive giveaway you get your wish.

For one day, one lucky student in attendance will sign a very unofficial “One-Day Contract” with the basketball team. You’ll receive your own locker, jersey, practice session, and even a court-side seat a home game. If the game gets out of hand, you could find yourself out there on a Division I basketball court.
