Penn State Wrestling’s Brady Berge Jumps Five Spots In InterMat Rankings Following 3-0 Start

It’s been been all gas and no brakes for Brady Berge since re-joining Penn State wrestling this season.

Berge has already wrestled three matches in a Penn State singlet this year and currently holds a 3-0 record. In Penn State’s 29-6 victory over then-No. 3 Michigan this past Friday night, Berge had an impressive 3-1 decision victory over then-No. 10 Cameron Amine.

After starting his return to the Nittany Lions unranked, Berge has risen all the way to No. 11 in InterMat’s 165-pound rankings. That’s a five-spot jump from last week’s No. 16 spot.

Berge was a volunteer assistant coach at South Dakota State before returning to the lineup on January 16 at Rec Hall against Rutgers. He opened his 2021-22 campaign with a 5-1 decision over Scarlet Knight Andrew Clark.

While Berge has found success even against ranked opponents, his toughest match to date will come against No. 2 Iowa this upcoming Friday when he faces No. 5 Alex Marinelli.

Another big move in the rankings came for Penn State’s 285-pounder, Greg Kerkvliet, who moved from No. 4 to No. 3 after defeating Michigan’s then-No. 2 Mason Parris this past Friday.

Berge and No. 1 Penn State will square off with No. 2 Iowa at 9.m. Friday, January 28 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The dual will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
