Former Penn State football running back Miles Sanders was arrested on DUI and careless driving charges on June 8 near Pittsburgh, according to court documents.

Police were called to William Penn Highway in Churchill Borough, where they found Sanders slumped over in the driver’s seat of his car in the middle of the highway. The officers attempted to wake him but described Sanders as “extremely lethargic.”

Police said Sanders smelled of alcohol as he exited the car and that Sanders admitted to drinking earlier in the day. He performed poorly on three separate field sobriety tests and tested positive for alcohol on the portable breath test, at which point police took him into custody.

Police also took a package of suspected marijuana from inside the vehicle. Sanders is due back in court for his preliminary hearing on September 23.

Sanders played for Penn State from 2016 to 2018. He most recently suited up for the Dallas Cowboys in 2025, playing in four games before suffering season-ending knee and ankle injuries.

He is still a free agent heading into the 2026 NFL season.
