Quarterback Xavier Copening Commits To Penn State As Walk-On

Penn State has added another quarterback to its roster heading into the 2022 season.

On Monday, Xavier Copening announced that he has committed to Penn State as a walk run-on for the upcoming campaign.

Copening, a Connecticut native, chose the Nittany Lions over Connecticut, Syracuse, and Boston College, among others. Standing at 6’1″ and 180 pounds, Copening is projected as a bit of a dual-threat quarterback.

Copening ranks as a three-star prospect and the No. 14 overall Class of 2021 recruit from Connecticut, according to 247Sports. This fall, he trained at Feltrim Academy Prep, a school in Haines City, Fla., that helps players prepare and improve their stock.

Once he arrives in Happy Valley, Copening will join a deep quarterback room headlined by returning starter Sean Clifford and Class of 2022 studs Drew Allar and Beau Pribula. For now, Penn State has six signal-callers on its roster.
