Penn State Legend Bobby Engram Named Wisconsin’s Offensive Coordinator

Former Penn State wide receiver Bobby Engram will now serve as Wisconsin’s offensive coordinator, per an announcement by the team on Monday.

Up in Madison, Engram will reunite with current Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst after coaching on his staff at Pitt from 2012 to 2013.

Engram was a key member of the Nittany Lions’ undefeated team during the 1994 season. Following the season’s conclusion, Engram was named the first-ever winner of the Biletnikoff Award, designated for college football’s best wide receiver. He remains the sole Penn Stater to earn the honor.

Engram finished his Penn State career with 167 receptions worth 3,026 yards and 31 touchdowns. He also recorded 155 rushing yards and a touchdown on only 11 career attempts.

His career marks in receiving yards and touchdown catches are the highest in program history, as he’s trailed by DaeSean Hamilton and Jahan Dotson in the respective categories.

The Chicago Bears selected Engram in the second round of the 1996 NFL Draft. After five seasons with the Bears, Engram signed with the Seahawks and played in Seattle for eight years. In the Seahawks’ 21-10 Super Bowl XL loss, Engram was the team’s leading receiver with six catches for 70 yards.

Engram later played five games with the Kansas City Chiefs and made the Cleveland Browns’ 2010 preseason roster before his NFL career came to an end.

Immediately following his retirement as a player, Engram accepted an offensive assistant coaching position with the San Francisco 49ers. In 2012, he moved to coach at Pitt, but since 2014, Engram has coached the Baltimore Ravens’ wide receiver and tight end groups.

Engram will lead a Wisconsin offense that finished eighth in the Big Ten in scoring this year. Penn State and Wisconsin are not currently scheduled to play each other over the next two seasons, so we’ll need to wait until at least 2024 to catch Engram on the opposing sideline during the regular season.
