Penn State Wrestling’s Carter Starocci Signals Return Via Twitter

By the looks of his Twitter, Penn State wrestling star Carter Starocci could be back to the mat in no time.

The nation’s No. 1-ranked star at 174 pounds simply tweeted “Daddy’s back” Friday morning. After missing Penn State’s last two duals due to a reported wrist injury, the Erie, Pa. native likely reassured plenty of Nittany Lion fans with the quick announcement.

Starocci missed out on a big couple of days last week for the Nittany Lions, but Cael Sanderson’s squad managed well without him. Penn State took down No. 8 Ohio State handily this past Friday night at the BJC dual and followed that with a convincing 21-13 win over No. 12 Nebraska at Rec Hall just two days later. With that, the Nittany Lions clinched yet another Big Ten regular-season championship.

Despite missing out on the fun last weekend, Starocci has already proven worthy of his No. 1 ranking this season. Sitting at 14-0 on the year, the redshirt sophomore has collected wins over several impressive wresters in his weight class, including Iowa’s Michael Kemerer and Logan Massa of Michigan.

Penn State has this coming weekend off, so Starocci will have to wait a bit for his return. The Nittany Lions will close out the regular season next week against Rider at Rec Hall. That dual will begin at 2 p.m. and air on BTN+.
