Penn State Baseball’s Home Opener Canceled Due To Inclement Weather

Update, March 15: Penn State baseball’s newly-scheduled home opener against Niagara, scheduled for Wednesday, March 16, has been canceled due to field conditions, the team announced Tuesday.

The Nittany Lions’ matchup with Milwaukee at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 18, will now serve as Penn State’s home opener.

Original Post: Penn State baseball’s home opener, which was originally slated for Tuesday, March 15, has been canceled due to recent weather and field concerns, the team announced Monday afternoon.

With the recent snow that hit State College, the field is presumably not in well enough condition for play as soon as Tuesday. The squad’s game at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, against Niagara will serve as Penn State’s new home opener.

The Nittany Lions carry a 5-9 record into the start of their home slate. Following a four-game losing streak at the hands of Virginia and VMI, Penn State bounced back this past weekend by winning two of three games over UMass in its final series down in Cary, North Carolina.

Through its 14 games, Penn State has been led by catcher Matt Wood and infielder Kyle Hannon. The duo took home Big Ten Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks after the Nittany Lions series’ against Maine and Virginia, respectively.

Following Penn State’s game against Niagara on Wednesday, Rob Cooper’s team has a three-game series against Milwaukee beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 18, at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
