Penn State Wrestling Legend Bo Nickal Seemingly Challenges Jake Paul

Bo Nickal, Penn State wrestling’s former three-time NCAA champion, may have found his next opponent: YouTube sensation and controversial boxer Jake Paul.

After Paul tweeted an old wrestling photo and an open challenge, Nickal offered a succinct response: “Let’s run it.” Naturally, this isn’t the first time Nickal has used social media to spar. In January, the former Penn State wrestler declared himself “Iowa’s Daddy” on Twitter.

Although Paul is widely criticized for avoiding competing against trained boxers (among other things), if he wanted to, this matchup may actually have legs. At his most recent boxing match, Paul weighed in at 191 pounds. Nickal last weighed in at 184, though the versatile wrestler also has college experience at 174 and 197 pounds.

Despite boasting a 5-0 boxing record, Paul has yet to competitively wrestle. Conversely, Nickal finished his collegiate career with a 120-3 record. In his recent foray into MMA, Nickal currently stands at 2-0.

Nickal finished his career at Penn State as arguably the greatest wrestler in program history. In each of his four seasons, he was named an All-American. He won three national championships (and was one win away from a fourth during his freshman year) and three Big Ten titles. In 2019, Nickal was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Year, earned the Hodge Award, and won the gold medal at the U23 World Championships.

This one doesn’t seem particularly close, folks. When Bo Nickal was competing for his third consecutive national championship, Jake Paul was still filming videos with Team 10. We know who our money would be on.
