Penn State Bike Den To Host ‘Pride In Your Ride’ Women & Queer Night March 23

Penn State’s Gender Equity Center, the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity, and Penn State Transportation Services are working together to a “Pride in Your Ride” bike workshop in honor of Women’s History Month this week.

The workshop event is designed to recognize women and the LGBTQ+ community. It will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, in West Parking Deck Bike Den.

The workshop will cover bikes and bike safety tips and also feature a discussion called “Ride or Die: The Forgotten History of Bicycles and Feminism.” This event is the first in a series titled “Pride in Your Ride,” which will continue with a Pride Month theme night in April.

Becca Geiger, assistant director at the Gender Equity Center, said that it’s important to understand that while Bike Den is open to everyone, there is a history of marginalized people not having equal access to open space.

“While the space is open to everyone, no matter their sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression or sexual orientation, there are historical barriers to women and queer folx accessing and utilizing such spaces and feeling welcome.”

You can read more about the event on the Gender Equity Center’s website.
