Student Film ‘A Deer In The Woods’ To Premiere At State Theatre April 28
A student-made feature film “A Deer in the Woods”, will premiere at the State Theatre on April 28, with a Q&A session to follow.
Wyatt Bumbarger, a current Penn State senior double-majoring in film production and corporate innovation, began pre-production on his film over a year ago. Now, Bumbarger and his crew’s final product is ready for public consumption.
“A Deer in the Woods” follows a group of film students who attempt to make a horror film in a cabin in the woods. When their film’s lead actress disappears, Harper, a budding thespian, takes over the role. However, as the night slowly unfolds, Harper finds herself engulfed in a horror of her own.
For his first feature film, Bumbarger served as director, screenwriter, and producer, leading a cast and crew of 20 students. Originally, “A Deer in the Woods” began as a short film, but its completion was stalled by the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to its reimagining as a feature-length project.
“I really wanted to still make a movie, so I started writing a new 120-page script just to show everyone that I was committed to the project,” Bumbarger told Onward State in September. “For about a week, I was writing and editing it for about four hours every night.”
A teaser trailer for the film released last August.
General admission tickets for the premiere can be reserved ahead of time on the State Theatre’s website for $10. The showing is set to begin at 7 p.m.
Donations to assist the crew in affording festival submissions and travel expenses can be directed to the project’s Go Fund Me. Future updates about the film can be found on the production’s Instagram page.
