Michigan State’s Olu Ogunwale Transfers To Penn State Men’s Soccer
Penn State men’s soccer has picked up a transfer portal target from Big Ten rival Michigan State this week, the team announced Monday.
Olu Ogunwale, who appeared in 58 games for the Spartans from 2018 to 2021, announced his commitment to play for the Nittany Lions next season. Ogunwale is a defender but previously netted a goal in Big Ten play with one score and one assist in the 2020 season. He previously helped the Spartans reach the College Cup in 2018.
Ogunwale will come to Penn State following four seasons of play at Michigan State with one remaining year of eligibility.
“Not only is it a great university, but the culture of the campus, as well as the athletic program, intrigued me immensely,” he said in a release.
Hailing from East Brunswick, New Jersey, Ogunwale is no stranger to the Keystone State. He went to high school in Wayne, Pennsylvania at YSC Academy, and has club experience with the Philadelphia Union Academy.
Penn State won both the Big Ten’s regular-season and tournament titles last season. The team will enter the fall season retaining many core players but will welcome Ogunwale’s defensive depth after giving up the Big Ten’s second-most goals in 2021.
