Penn State-Syracuse To Renew Series Starting In 2027

Penn State football and Syracuse will renew their home-and-home series beginning in 2027, the programs announced Wednesday morning.

The Nittany Lions will host Syracuse on September 4, 2027, before traveling up north to take on the Orange on September 9, 2028.

“The Syracuse-Penn State series is one of tremendous historic significance for our University, community, alumni and Orange fans around the world,” Syracuse’s director of athletics, John Wildhack, said in a release. “We are excited to renew this historic rivalry.”

The two teams first played each other back in 1922 at the Polo Grounds in a game that ended in a 0-0 tie. The most recent matchup came in 2013 at MetLife Stadium when Penn State took down Syracuse 23-17. In the 71 all-time games between the programs, the Nittany Lions own a 43-23-5 record over the Orange.

The 71 meetings between the two teams make Penn State the Orange’s second-most frequent all-time opponent behind the Pittsburgh Panthers, who have played Syracuse 77 times.

The last time Syracuse came to Beaver Stadium was in 2009 when the Nittany Lions escaped with a comfortable 28-7 victory. In Penn State’s most recent trip to Syracuse, it blew the Orange out 55-13 in 2008. Dating back to 1989, the Nittany Lions have won the last five meetings.

In addition to Syracuse, the Nittany Lions will play Delaware and Temple in 2027 as part of their non-conference schedule, as announced back in 2018.
