The Squirrel And Acorn Bookshop To Open On South Allen Street In August

The Squirrel and Acorn Bookshop is set to open up for business at 103 S. Allen Street in August.

The independent bookstore will move into the former home of The Animal Kingdom, a shop full of stuffed animals and other assorted children’s products that had previously been open for 30 years. The Animal Kingdom did not renew its lease when it expired in June and has since merged with its sister store, Growing Tree Toys, in downtown State College.

“From a stuffed animal shop to an independent bookstore. Imagination, stories, and whimsy continue to make a home at this beautiful space!” the store said in a post on its Instagram page, with a nod to its predecessor.

Described as “an independent bookshop where stories are discovered and created, voices heard and celebrated, and where imagination and a bit of whimsy are constant companions during your visit” on the store’s website, the bookstore is already accepting orders for future in-store pickups.
