Penn State Baseball’s Matt Wood Signs With Brewers Following Draft Selection

Former Penn State baseball star Matt Wood has signed with the Milwaukee Brewers for $347,500 after the team selected him in the fourth round of the 2022 MLB Draft.

Wood was drafted No. 132 overall by the Brewers, which is the highest-ever spot a Penn State position player has been selected.

Wood had a breakout season for Penn State in the spring, as he helped guide the Nittany Lions to their first win in the Big Ten Tournament since 2008.

The left-handed swinging catcher won the Big Ten batting title with a .395 regular season average in 2022, becoming the first Penn State player to lead the conference in batting since Michael Campo in 2000.

Wood’s 26-game hitting streak from March 25 to May 9 was the second-longest in school history.
