Sean Clifford Named To Walter Camp Player Of The Year Watch List

Another day, another preseason award watch list for Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford.

Clifford was named to the Walter Camp Player of the Year watch list on Friday. The honor is annually given to college football’s best player.

Clifford is one of 52 players and 22 quarterbacks to appear on the preseason list. The list will be narrowed down to 10 semifinalists in November before the winner is announced at ESPN’s College Football Awards Show.

Watch list SZN has been kind to the Nittany Lion signal-caller. This is the fourth preseason list Clifford has been named to. He also appears on the watch lists for the Davey O’Brien Award, Maxwell Award, and the Wuerffel Trophy.

The Ohio native is entering his fourth year at the helm of Penn State’s offense. Last season, Clifford totaled 3,107 yards and 21 touchdowns through the air while completing 61% of his passes. He currently sits at 62 career passing touchdowns, which is the second-highest mark in program history. With 16 throwing touchdowns this season, Clifford would pass Trace McSorley for the most in team history.

Recently, Clifford, along with four other Penn State representatives, spoke at the Big Ten football’s media day to discuss various topics ahead of the 2022 season.
