Four-Star Wide Receiver Carmelo Taylor Commits To Penn State Football

Penn State has snagged its newest pass catcher.

Four-star wide receiver Carmelo Taylor announced his verbal commitment to Penn State’s Class of 2023, he announced on his Instagram account Wednesday afternoon. He is the 18th player in the Nittany Lions’ class this recruiting cycle.

Taylor took an official visit to State College on June 24, roughly one month after receiving Penn State’s offer. The 6’0″, 170-pound wide receiver selected Penn State over South Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Big Ten foe Maryland, among others.

The Roanoke, Virginia native is the state’s sixth-best recruit and the nation’s 43rd-ranked wide receiver, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. In high school, Taylor split time at both wide receiver and cornerback, while also being a two-time state champion track runner.

Taylor joins a Nittany Lion recruiting class with just one other receiver: Ejani Shakir. Securing Taylor’s commitment was of heightened importance after three-star wide receiver Yazeed Haynes decommitted from Penn State in July, leaving a gap in the class’ position group.

James Franklin and his team of recruiters have historically seen success in the DMV area and this year is no different. Taylor is the fifth player to commit from the region and there are no signs that the hot streak will stop any time soon.

Following Taylor’s decision, Penn State’s Class of 2023 finds itself still ranked No. 10 in the nation and No. 2 in the Big Ten, trailing only the Ohio State Buckeyes.
