‘Fresh START’ Day Of Service Set For August 27

Penn State’s annual Fresh START Day of Service is back, and students can “get rooted” in the State College community from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 27.

The program aims to foster a passion for giving back to the community and inspire continued future civic engagement throughout students’ lives. Students will also learn about the many services and civic engagement opportunities around State College while building new friendships.

Those interested should RSVP online through OrgCentral. The program is open to all Penn State students, however, it is designed for freshmen, change-of-campus students, transfers, and World Campus students.

Service sites include the Arboretum, State College Community Land Trust, Chapel Boal’s Mansion, the Student Farm, Rise Against Hunger, THON Mats, Runkle Hall gardening, Business Building gardening, and Clearwater Conservancy.

Here’s this year’s schedule:

  • 10 to 11 a.m. — Check-in outside of Alumni Hall in the HUB
  • 11 to 11:30 a.m. — Snacks & team-building activities
  • 11:30 a.m. — Begin dismissing to community partner sites
  • Noon to 3 p.m. — Volunteering with community partners
  • 3 to 4:30 p.m. — Meal & Service Organization Fair to learn more about how to get involved

Participants should remember to wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Students will receive free lunch, free snacks, and a free t-shirt.
