Penn State Football’s Joey Porter Jr. Named Bednarik Award Defensive Player Of The Week

Penn State football cornerback Joey Porter Jr. has been named Bednarik Award Defensive Player of the Week, which is given to the week’s best defensive player in college football.

Porter is rewarded for his contribution to Penn State’s 35-31 victory over Purdue on Thursday evening, as he racked up a team-high eight tackles and forced six incompletions.

The North Allegheny, Pennsylvania, native was named to the award watch list over the summer and is expected to be a key contributor to Penn State’s defense. The veteran cornerback is currently projected as a first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Porter has been a force during his time at Penn State. During his first three seasons in Happy Valley, Porter made 88 tackles, one interception, and broke up nine passes.
