Three Penn State Wrestlers To Compete At NWCA All-Star Classic

Three Penn State wrestlers are set to compete in the NWCA All-Star Classic on November 22, as announced by the NWCA Saturday.

Carter Starocci, Aaron Brooks, and Greg Kerkvliet will all have matches during the event, earning Penn State a tie for the most represented school at the event. Both Iowa and Arizona State also have three wrestlers set to participate.

The NWCA All-Star Classic will return from a four-year absence and currently advertises 13 matches, featuring both men’s and women’s wrestlers. Every announced wrestler so far is an All-American.

Starocci is set to face Mekhi Lewis from Virginia Tech in the 174-pound division. Brooks will take on Parker Keckeisen from Northern Iowa in the 184-pound division, while Kerkvliet will wrestle Anthony Cassioppi from Iowa in the 285-pound division.

Starocci most recently competed against Lewis in the 2022 NCAA Championship when the Nittany Lion picked up the win. Brooks defeated Keckeisen in his domination of the NCAA Championship field, too. Kerkvliet has wrestled Cassioppi three times in his career — including at the Big Ten Championships and the classic 2022 Penn State-Iowa duel — but has never won.

Starocci and Brooks were crowned national champions at the NCAA Championships Tournament in March 2022. In addition to Starocci and Brooks’ victories, the Nittany Lions picked up three other individual national championships, in addition to the team national title, at the event.

The Classic will be held in Austin, Texas, and can be streamed live on FloWrestling.
