Penn State’s Barney Amor Named Big Ten Special Teams Player Of The Week

Penn State football punter Barney Amor has been named this week’s Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week, as announced by the conference Monday morning.

It’s the first Special Teams Player of the Week award for the Pennsylvania native, who was recently put on full scholarship thanks to a surprise from former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning.

He’s the first Nittany Lion to win the award since last November when 2021’s Big Ten Punter of the Year, Jordan Stout, did it.

In week five’s wet and sloppy 17-7 win over Northwestern, Amor punted five times for a combined 200 yards, averaging 40 yards per attempt. Four of his five punts landed inside the 20 and three of them inside the 10-yard line.

Amor has been a key piece on this year’s team, as his punts have helped Penn State win the field-position battle, leading the defense to more turnovers and stops.

So far this season Amor ranks fourth in total punt yards in the Big Ten with 1,029 and has 14 punts inside the 20, the second most in the Big Ten. Amor has already been named to the Ray Guy Award watch list and is building a solid case to be in contention for the award.

No. 10 Penn State is on its bye this week but will travel to Ann Arbor to take on the No. 4 Michigan Wolverines in the Big House on Saturday, October 15.
