Makenna Marisa Named To Liberman Award Watch List

Lady Lions senior guard Makenna Marisa has been an asset to Carolyn Kieger and Penn State women’s basketball since her first appearance as a freshman.

The 5’11” McMurray, Pennsylvania, native has now been named to the Nancy Lieberman Award Watch List, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Monday. The Lieberman Award is presented annually to the nation’s top collegiate point guard.

It was no easy feat for Marisa to be named this honor, though — she has worked hard and now ranks 25th at Penn State with 1,244 all-time career points.

Last season, Marisa had the third-best scoring average (22.2 points per game) in Lady Lions history. Along with that, she had five 30-point games and shined against Michigan State, landing 14 free throws. Coaches and media selected the guard to be First-Team All-Big Ten. Marisa also earned academic All-Big Ten and CoSIDA Academic All-District honors.

Penn State fans can vote for Marisa in each of the three voting rounds beginning on Friday, October 21.

The 2023 Nancy Liberman Award winner will be presented on a to-be-determined date.
