Lion Ambassadors, YMCA Teaming Up To Reduce Food Insecurity November 7

Penn State’s Lion Ambassadors are teaming up with the YMCA of Centre County to promote food insecurity awareness and combat hunger within the State College community. Penn State students are encouraged to join the effort, too.

The event will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, November 7, at the Hintz Family Alumni Center. Lion Ambassadors will prepare backpacks for the YMCA’s Backpack Program, which provides food for over 1,000 children each week throughout the academic year. Additionally, the YMCA will have its Travelin’ Table bus on-site to distribute food to attendees.

“Our mission is exemplified through our four pillars: service, tradition, excellence and pride,” Lion Ambassador Committee Director Emma Chan said in a release. “For recruitment efforts this semester, we wanted to positively impact the community while also promoting the work Lion Ambassadors do. Since over 30% of Penn State students have reported experiencing food insecurity, we felt that this was a pertinent issue to tackle and bring more awareness to.”

The YMCA of Centre County provides accessible resources and opportunities to all members of the community to grow and thrive. Its mission is to improve overall health and well-being, empower youth, and emphasize the importance of connecting within and across communities.
