What To Do In Philly Over Thanksgiving Break
Thanksgiving break is finally here, folks.
Many Penn State students will be traveling back home to the Philadelphia area. Between parades, sporting events, and concerts, there’s a lot to do in Philly over break.
Here are some events in and around Center City to enjoy this Thanksgiving break:
Events & Festivals
6ABC Dunkin’ Thanksgiving Day Parade
The Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade is a must-do activity in Philadelphia over break. It’s the oldest parade of its kind, with thousands of people gathering to watch along the streets of Center City every year. There’s no cost to watch along most of the route, and the parade begins at 8:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving.
Winter At Dilworth Park
The winter festival at Dilworth Park is back again this year, offering activities, fun, and food for guests of all ages. The festival features an ice skating rink, food and beverage offerings, and a light-projection show on City Hall, which runs every hour at the top of the hour from 5 to 9 p.m. every day. If you venture further into City Hall, you’ll find the Philadelphia Holiday tree, too.
Christmas Village In Philadelphia
In Love Park, home of the famous Love Statue, is the German-style Christmas Market. Along with various stands selling trinkets, toys, and clothing, the village features European-inspired deserted and beverages that are sure to get you into the holiday season. The market doesn’t open until November 24, Thanksgiving Day, but it will be open for the rest of the holiday season.
The Arts
Meek Mill + Friends: Dreams And Nightmares 10-Year Anniversary Concert
To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of his hit album Dreams and Nightmares, hometown artist Meek Mill is holding a one-night-only concert at the Wells Fargo Center in South Philly. The concert begins at 8 p.m. on Saturday, November 26. Limited tickets are still available online for the event.
Philadelphia Orchestra Presents: Home Alone At The Kimmel Center
Everybody loves Home Alone! It’s a classic Christmas movie with some iconic music. The Philadelphia Orchestra will be performing John Williams’ famous Home Alone score live alongside special screenings of the film. There are three shows over break with tickets still available:
- 7 p.m. on Friday, November 25
- 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 26
- 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 27
Rodgers And Hammerstein’s Cinderella At The Walnut Street Theatre
For fans of musicals, several performances of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella will happen at the Walnut Street Theatre. Tickets are still available for most shows, which run throughout the week of Thanksgiving. Runtimes are available online.
Sports
Philadelphia Eagles
Despite a rough loss to the Washington Commanders this past Monday, the Eagles have started off this season hot. The Birds play one home game during Thanksgiving break, in prime time, against the Green Bay Packers at 8:20 p.m. on Sunday, November 27. Tickets for the game are still available online.
Philadelphia 76ers
The Sixers had a rocky start to the season but have been recently improving thanks to some incredible performances from Joel Embiid. The Sixers play a few games at home during break, and tickets are still available online:
- Bucks vs. Sixers — Friday, November 18
- Timberwolves vs. Sixers — Saturday, November 19
- Nets vs. Sixers — Tuesday, November 22
Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers have had a better start to the season than many thought. They play two games over break at home, including a matchup against the interstate rival Pittsburgh Penguins. Tickets for the games are available on the Wells Fargo Center’s website:
- Flames vs. Flyers — Monday, November 21
- Penguins vs. Flyers — Friday, November 25
