Penn State Football’s Kaytron Allen Named Big Ten Co-Freshman Of The Week

For the second time this season, Penn State football’s Kaytron Allen is the Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

Allen was given the honor following his performance in Penn State’s 55-10 win over Rutgers. Allen shares the award this week with Ohio State running back Dallan Hayden. Allen previously received the honor following his 111-yard game against Central Michigan.

While this is Allen’s second time receiving the award, it’s the fifth time a Nittany Lion running back has taken home weekly freshman honors this season. Nick Singleton also received the award three times following his performances against Ohio, Auburn, and Maryland.

Allen’s had a remarkable freshman season and continued that success against Rutgers. The Virginia native rushed for 117 yards and one touchdown on 11 carries, marking the second time this season he’s surpassed 100 yards in a game.

Following their Rutgers performances, Allen and Singleton became the only freshman running back duo in Big Ten history to both have 700+ yards in the same season. It’s no surprise this is the fifth time one of them has won “Freshman of the Week.”

With its dominant win against Rutgers, Penn State moved to 9-2 on the year. The Nittany Lions will try to finish the regular season strong against Michigan State this Saturday. Penn State’s home matchup against the Spartans will kick off at 4 p.m. on FS1.
