Wawa ‘Actively’ Looking To Expand To State College

2022 can’t get any better for the Philly folks. Within the next few years, you’ll finally be able to add Wawa hoagies to your tailgating menu.

Wawa is “actively looking into potential sites” for new stores in the State College area, according to Wawa’s senior manager of media relations, Lori Bruce.

Wawa previously announced in June that it was looking into expanding its existing markets into Central Pennsylvania with up to 40 additional stores.

“With a commitment to fulfilling lives, we’re thrilled to continue our growth and expansion in our existing markets to provide quality fresh food, beverages and support to the community,” John Poplawski, vice president of real estate for Wawa, said in a statement. “In addition, Wawa’s continued expansion will mean even more convenience and new jobs in the Central Pennsylvania community.”

Perhaps Onward State’s pleading was heard by a few Penn State x Wawa lovers…

“Many of the students in the market come from existing ‘Wawalands,’ and over the years, we have received thousands of requests from students to spread our wings further west to reach them while they are in State College,” Bruce said.

Wawa cannot confirm specific timelines or locations at this time, but it’s anticipating a “number” of sites. Wawa fanatics can look forward to being served as soon as 2025.

Wawa opened its first food market in 1964 in Folsom, Pennsylvania, and operates 950 stores across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, and Washington D.C. More than half of its locations offer fuel, too.

The store offers “Built-to-Orderz” hoagies, fresh coffee, and a variety of other snacks and beverages.
