Former Penn State Hoops Guard Sam Sessoms Shining For Coppin State

Former Penn State basketball player Sam Sessoms is shining for Coppin State in his first season with his new squad.

The 6’0″ guard scored his 2,000th career point in his team’s game against George Washington on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old grad transfer from Philadelphia decided in March to continue his collegiate career at Coppin State after a strong career at Penn State. Sessoms played his first two seasons at Binghamton before transferring to play his junior and senior seasons for the Nittany Lions.

Sessoms currently ranks fourth in scoring in all of Division I men’s basketball, averaging 23.7 points per game through 13 contests. He also leads the Eagles in assists per game with 5.6 and is one of a few active players with both 1,500 points and 350 assists.

His efforts this season haven’t gone unrecognized. This past week, Sessoms was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the fifth straight week.

Sessoms has scored at least 16 points in all 13 games this year. His best performance of the season came back on December 3 when he scored 35 points and hit a game-winner against Loyola Maryland.

After beginning the season with a record of 3-2, Sessoms and the Eagles have lost seven of their last eight outings. Next up for Coppin State is a matchup with James Madison at 11 a.m. on December 21.
