Former Penn State Safety Calvin Lowry Joins Coaching Staff As Offensive Analyst

Calvin Lowry is back in Happy Valley, folks.

In the 17 years since playing for Penn State, Lowry spent three seasons in the NFL followed by time on coaching staffs at Baylor and Tulsa. Now, the former safety is joining James Franklin’s staff as an offensive analyst and analytics coordinator.

Lowry was a member of Penn State’s program from 2001 to 2005 as a safety and special teams piece. He earned first-team All-Big Ten distinction as a senior after tallying 79 tackles and four interceptions that season. Soon after, Lowry was a fourth-round draft pick by the Tennessee Titans in the 2006 NFL Draft. He played 43 career games for four different NFL teams before taking up coaching in 2011.

Lowry was Tulsa’s wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator since 2015, but he’ll fill the void left by Charlie Frye, who recently took the offensive coordinator job at Florida Atlantic.

Lowry helped coach a total of five wideouts to 1,000-yard seasons at Tulsa, including the nation’s leading receiver in 2015, Keyarris Garrett. Most recently, Keylon Stokes was named a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award after reeling in 76 catches for 1,224 yards and eight touchdowns in his senior season with the Golden Hurricanes.
