Penn State Women’s Lacrosse Names 2023 Team Captains

Three Penn State women’s lacrosse players — Rachel Spilker, Regan Nealon, and Kristin O’Neill — will be captains for the 2023 season, the team announced Thursday.

Spilker and Nealon are seniors, with Spilker entering her second season as a captain. O’Neill, a junior, will serve as a first-time captain.

Penn State women’s lacrosse coach Missy Doherty feels confident the three players will represent and lead the team well.

“Our captains are a great representation of all the qualities you look for in a leader,” Doherty said. “They are selfless, hard-working, competitive, and motivate their teammates through their own actions. I’m proud to have them lead our program in 2023.”

All three captains are standout players, and they have the stats to show for it. Last season, Spilker started all 15 games, recording 15 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. Nealon appeared in all 15 games and totaled three goals, eight ground balls, and eight assists. Nealon posted a career-high three points last season against Saint Joseph’s.

O’Neill made a legitimate impact last season, earning first-team All-Big Ten and All-Region honors. Additionally, O’Neill won the Big Ten Freshman of the Year award in 2021 for her contributions.

The three captains will kick off their season at noon on Saturday, February 11, at Panzer Stadium against Bucknell. More information about the 2023 season schedule can be found here.
