Penn State A Cappella Group ‘The Coda Conduct’ To Compete In International Championships

Move over, Barden Bellas. Penn State’s very own co-ed a cappella group, The Coda Conduct, is heading to the 2023 International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA). The group will compete in the Central Region quarterfinals on Saturday, February 4, in Rochester, New York.

Just like in the movie “Pitch Perfect,” The Coda Conduct will compete against more than 400 groups from universities across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom in this year’s tournament.

While relatively new, having been founded in 2012, The Coda Conduct is no stranger to the ICCA. The ensemble took home first place in the 2015 and 2017 quarterfinals and is making its return to the 2023 ICCA following a three-year hiatus.

The group is tasked with creating and choreographing three songs to be performed in the competition.

“Our music is very professional, but we go about it in very unique ways,” said President Lauren Bauer. “We just work very collaboratively like that. You can make music in any space.”

The Coda Conduct also plans to release an album, titled “Hung Up,” in the near future.

“The theme is ‘hung up on you.’ It’s all telephone-based, [and] we’ve got little interludes in between like voice memos and people on phone calls,” Bauer said. “We’ve got some [music] coming out and some in the making.”

You can check out The Coda Conduct’s music on Spotify and Apple Music.
