Penn State Men’s Hockey To Host Sled Hockey Charity Game February 11
Penn State men’s hockey will host the first annual Sled Hockey Classic on Saturday, February 11, against the Happy Valley Coyotes at Pegula Ice Arena in a player-organized charity event.
The teams will play in a 20-minute scrimmage at approximately 11:30 a.m. Gates will open at 11 a.m. and be open to the public. Admission for the scrimmage will be free, but fans are encouraged to donate to the Coyotes’ GoFundMe.
Sled hockey was designed to help anyone with a disability have the opportunity to play hockey. Players sit on specialized sleds and each use two shorter sticks with metal picks on the ends that allow them to push themselves around the ice. The rest of the rules are essentially the same.
Penn State Athletics credited players for organizing the scrimmage, specifically sophomore Dylan Lugris.
“The Coyotes are a huge part of who we are as a team. They inspire us to work hard on and off the ice every day, no matter what adversity we face,” Lugris said. “We’re truly blessed that we’re able to put on this event and show them how much we appreciate and support them.”
The team auctioned off its game-worn “Wear White” jerseys and donated a portion of the proceeds to the Coyotes last month.
The Nittany Lions have a bye this week but will return to conference play at home on Friday, February 17, and Saturday, February 18, for a two-game series against Minnesota. Both games will be televised on the Big Ten Network and begin at 6:30 p.m.
