Jalen Pickett Earns Spot On Naismith Player Of The Year Midseason Team
Penn State men’s basketball star Jalen Pickett was named to the Naismith Player of the Year Midseason Team on Thursday, representing a bright spot during the team’s three-game losing streak.
The senior guard is in the midst of a stellar final season as a Nittany Lion, seeking to become the second player in 30 years to average 17 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists per game.
Pickett is on pace to break Penn State’s single-season assists record of 198, set by Tim Frazier in 2012. He has 168 assists so far, with at least eight games remaining on the schedule.
Pickett is also a near-lock to surpass 2,000 points in his college career, standing at 1,966.
So far this season, Pickett has piled up accolades, having already been named a Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award Top 10 Candidate, Wooden Award Late Season Top 20 Watch List, Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List, and Sporting News Midseason All-America Third Team.
The 30-player Naismith Player of the Year Midseason Team is compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club, a group of basketball enthusiasts. Player of the Year semifinalists will be announced in March, and the winner will be announced on April 2.
