While You Were Sleeping: What Happened At THON 2023 Overnight

The full 46-hour grind of THON isn’t for everyone. No worries, it’s a bit too much for anyone. We all need to go to sleep eventually.

For those that didn’t make it through the night, we have you covered. Here are the Friday night highlights of THON 2023 that you may have missed.

Slides Of Strength

The night started off strong with the slides of strength. Needless to say, there was ~plenty~ of baby powder. THON is best enjoyed a little dirty, anyway.

Movin’ On Director Sophia Moussan Took The Stage

Sophia Moussan showed us that she can do more than schedule Movin’ On performers. She can perform herself! Moussan wowed the crowd with some great vocals and kicked things off for the long haul of the night shift.

We Had Six Line Dances & One Stretch

While the night started off hot and heavy with line dances (we’re talking three in under 90 minutes), eventually things calmed down partially due to the performance from Ted and the Hi-Fi’s. All in all, we feel that we have it down pat.

Water Taste Test

Dancers went on the stage to test taste water from the HUB, the Paterno Library, White Building, and the Williard Building. An interesting note: water from the White Building is both easily identifiable and salty.

Ted And The Hi-Fis

Ted and the Hi-Fis let Penn State know that professors can do more than teach. They can also sing! The group performed songs from the Beatles, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Sublime, among other artists. They even led the crowd in a “We Are!” chant to close their early morning performance.

The Floor Was MOPPED

After 12 hours of dancing, the floor was wiped down at 6:05 a.m. While THON Media Relations folks filmed hype videos, moppers fervently cleared and mopped the dancers’ ~special space~.

We Played Just Dance

Students danced along to “Waka Waka” and “I Gotta Feeling” choreographed dances on the big screen. There can never be too much dancing at THON, right? Plus, songs like those really take you back to the good old days.

In Other News

We also covered a few miscellaneous comings and goings of THON on Friday night. We picked out a few No. 46 jerseys for people to wear at the Bryce Jordan Center. We found great places to charge your phone around THON. We even spoke to one THON supporter wearing a car dealership inflatable costume. All in a night’s work.
