Penn State Hoops’ Jalen Pickett Named Second-Team All-American By Sporting News
Penn State men’s basketball’s Jalen Pickett keeps racking up awards, folks.
He’s a finalist for the John R. Wooden Award, the Oscar Robertson Award, and the Bob Cousy Award. Now, he can add second-team All-American to his list of accolades.
Sporting News, one of the four outlets used by the NCAA to determine the consensus All-American teams, named Pickett as a member of its second team. Pickett joins Jesse Arnelle as the only two Nittany Lions to earn second-team or higher All-America status.
Pickett finished the season averaging 18 points, 7.3 rebounds, and seven assists. He’s only the second player in the last 30 years to finish the season with that stat line. He’s also the only Division I men’s basketball player to accumulate 2,000+ career points, 700+ career rebounds, and 800+ career assists in at least the last 37 years.
This won’t be the only award Pickett picks up as his prolific season comes to an end. Other outlets will be releasing their All-American teams in the coming days, as well as the Big Ten releasing conference awards, so safe it’s safe to say that Pickett will be acquiring even more pieces of hardware to memorialize his special season.
