Penn State Hoops’ Jalen Pickett Named Second-Team AP All-American

Penn State men’s basketball standout Jalen Pickett was named a second-team All-American by the Associated Press Tuesday afternoon. The news comes one week after Pickett was also named second-team All-American by Sporting News.

UCLA’s Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kentucky’s Oscar Tshiebwe, Gonzaga’s Drew Timme, and Arizona’s Azuolas Tubelis make up the second team’s remaining members. The Big Ten saw two players earn first-team All-American honors, Purdue’s Zach Eddy and Indiana’s Trayce Jackson-Davis.

Pickett was a huge part of earning Penn State its upcoming NCAA Tournament appearance, as he led the Nittany Lions in almost all statistical categories, including points, rebounds, assists, minutes played, and steals. Pickett finished the regular season averaging 17.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game.

Elsewhere this offseason, Pickett has been named a finalist for national distinctions such as the John R. Wooden Award, the Oscar Robertson Award, and the Bob Cousy Award.

The next test for Pickett and the Nittany Lions comes in the first round of the NCAA tournament where they will face off against Texas A&M at 9:55 p.m. on TBS. This will be the program’s first March Madness appearance since 2011.
