Onward State Presents: Best ‘Penn State Bars/Restaurants’ Bracket: First Round

This. Is. March.

With the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament kicking off today, March Madness is in full swing. Penn State fans will certainly be locked in on the action, as the Nittany Lions face off against Texas A&M at 9:55 p.m. ET tonight in the Round of 64.

To fully embrace the tournament madness, we decided to make a bracket of our own. We present you with the “Best Penn State Bars/Restaurants” bracket, folks!

Some of our staffers brainstormed some of State College’s best bars and restaurants and seeded them to put together a four-region, 32-bar/restaurant bracket. From popular downtown spots like Champs and Doggie’s to restaurant staples such as Gigi’s and The Field, our bracket represents some of Happy Valley’s very best.

You want your favorite bar or restaurant to win it all? That’s up to you. Head over to our Google Form and vote in our Round of 32 by 5 p.m. on Monday, March 20. As you all know, we sleep in May.

You can see all four regions, as well as the Google Form where you can vote, below.

Dirty Sprite Region

The Dirty Sprite Region is headlined by none other than Champs Downtown. The heavy favorite has some solid competition with the likes of The Basement and Gigi’s in this region.

Green Tea Region

No, alums — not the Rathskeller. Doggie’s Pub takes the top spot in the Green Tea Region. While Doggie’s is the favorite here, the frat bros will certainly make a push for Primanti Bros… We’re sure of that.

Mitch-A-Palooza Region

This one could get interesting. While the previous two No. 1 seeds are powerhouses, we could see a potential shakeup here with a really balanced bracket. For those who don’t know, Social Food & Drink is the bar attached to the Scholar Hotel.

Pitcher Region

Finally, we have the Pitcher Region, which is headlined by, you guessed it — Cafe 210 West. Cafe’s first-round matchup is against The Trophy Room, a restaurant/bar in the Graduate Hotel.

Popular bars like the Shandygaff, Antifragile, and A’s Pub round out our final region.
