Penn State Wrestling Clinches 2023 Team National Championship

Penn State wrestling remains as dominant as ever.

The Nittany Lions wrote the newest chapter in their dynastic history, clinching the 2023 team national championship Saturday morning. Penn State has now won 10 of the last 12 team national championships.

The Nittany Lions clinched the team title before their first wrestler, Beau Bartlett, even wrestled on Saturday. Penn State currently leads the team standings with 124.5 points. Big Ten rival Iowa sits in second place, heavily behind, with 77.0 points.

Head coach Cael Sanderson’s reign of terror over the NCAA has now produced its 10th national championship and the 11th in program history.

Sanderson’s squad has controlled the 2023 tournament thus far. The team posted a combined record of 30-6 prior to the tournament’s third day.

Of the Nittany Lions’ nine qualifying wrestlers, five will have the opportunity to win individual national championships in the NCAA finals Saturday. Under Sanderson’s leadership, the Nittany Lions have earned 32 individual national titles.
