Penn State Men’s Hockey To Face Michigan Tech In NCAA Tournament Regionals

Another Penn State team is headed to the Big Dance, folks.

Penn State men’s hockey will face Michigan Tech as the No. 2 seed in the Allentown Region in the NCAA Regionals at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 24 at PPL Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The game will be televised on ESPNU. If the Nittany Lions win, they’ll play the winner of the Michigan-Colgate at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 26.

Michigan Tech comes into the tournament with a 24-10-4 regular season record and a 4-0 loss to Northern Michigan in the semifinals of the CCHA Tournament. It will be the first-ever matchup between the two teams.

This is Penn State’s first time playing in the NCAA Tournament since 2018 when it lost 5-1 to Denver in the first round.

The Nittany Lions enter the NCAA Tournament after a 20-13-1 regular season, and it’s safe to say the season was a rollercoaster. The beginning of the season saw the Nittany Lions have their best start in program history and take down other top-ranked teams in the nation such as Minnesota and Michigan. The second half of the season wasn’t as pretty, but Penn State did enough to maintain a top-10 spot in the PairWise rankings for the better portion of the season.

If the Nittany Lions can win their next two games, they will earn a trip to the 2023 Men’s Frozen Four in Tampa Bay, Florida.
