Penn State Men’s Hockey’s Ashton Calder & Connor MacEachern Signed To Pro Deals

A couple of Penn State men’s hockey players are moving on, folks.

Forwards Ashton Calder and Connor MacEachern signed professional deals on Monday.

Calder, who spent one year with the Nittany Lions, joined the Florida Everblades, the ECHL developmental team of the Florida Panthers.

MacEachern, who spent four years with Penn State, signed with the San Jose Barracuda, the American Hockey League affiliate of the San Jose Sharks.

In his five-year college career, Calder spent time with three different programs. His journey started with Lake Superior State, where he spent three seasons before he moved to North Dakota State for one year.

With his previous teams, Calder skated in a combined 141 games and registered 44 goals and 56 assists. He led Lake Superior State to the 2021 WCHA Championship Game and an NCAA Tournament berth. In his lone season in Happy Valley, Calder appeared in 34 games, scoring 10 goals and notching seven assists.

In four years with Penn State, MacEachern was a standout for the Nittany Lions. In his 130 appearances, he registered 31 goals and 46 assists. He was also an important part of the team’s NCAA Tournament run this year, scoring in both games.

MacEachern put together an impressive pairing of seasons during his junior and senior years. In the 2021-22 season, he registered 14 goals and 14 assists. He also controlled the face-off circle, winning 58.9% of face-offs. In the 2022-23 season, he recorded 12 goals and 15 assists, combining for the third-most points on the team.
