Two Penn State men’s lacrosse players earned weekly distinctions from the Big Ten following strong performances against Johns Hopkins on Saturday.

Graduate student TJ Malone was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, while Chase Mullins was recognized as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for his efforts.

Malone racked up eight points in his team’s overtime victory against the Blue Jays, recording four goals and four assists. Most notably, Malone assisted Kevin Winkhoff’s game-winning goal in the final minute.

This season, Malone leads the Nittany Lions in points with 47. Malone has scored 24 goals and secured 23 assists to date.

The first weekly award of Mullins’ career came as he won 19 of his 28 face-offs, tying his best mark of the season. Mullins has now logged 99 face-off wins on the year, winning at a 52.4% clip.

The Nittany Lions next face off with No. 15 Michigan on the road. The game will start at 6 p.m., televised by ESPNU.
