[Photo Story] Best Outdoor Study Spots Across Campus

As the weather continues to get better here in State College, many students have taken their school work into the great outdoors.

At a campus as vast as Penn State’s, there are more than ample places to further educational endeavors outside. Let’s take a look at a few of Happy Valley’s best spots to study.

A lesser-thought-of spot is home to many great seating options and tasty treats: the Berkey Creamery. It’s an easy spot to settle down, grab an ice cream, and chip away at homework while keeping company with other students passing by.

Another great spot for some quieter studies is the Hintz Alumni Garden, located right behind the Sackett Building.

Here, you’ll find luscious plants and flowers along with a little gazebo to enjoy your readings.

Home to a quaint pond, this spot has everything you need.

Our next location puts us outside the Chemical and Biomedical Engineering Building, which is home to a bunch of outdoor seats and a fantastic view of the Huck Life Sciences Building and Pollock Road.

The patio provides shade, and there is a wonderful lawn to put out a blanket and enjoy the rays.

The next location takes us to the Westgate Building. Immediately attached to the right and left of the building are a series of shaded tables.

These tables are the perfect spot to bring a snack, some homework, and enjoy the scenic view of West campus.

Another lesser-known spot, but one that may have the best appeal of all, is the Pattee Library patio

Here, you’ll find a few chairs, as well as conveniently designed lounge-style seating along the blocks. While the concrete seating may not be appealing at first, I can assure you they are very comfortable and provide an excellent place to suntan while working on homework.

Conveniently located right outside the library, you can always run in to use the bathroom, grab a snack from the vending machines, or head inside when the suntan starts to turn to a burn.

Last but not least is my personal favorite spot, the Business Building patio.

This area provides everything a student could need — access to chargers, coffee from Saxbys, and proximity to those notoriously difficult business classes.

Nothing says “getting down to business” quite like locking in for a study session here.

One more honorable mention is the HUB patio. A no-brainer to some, the patio provides a social vibe that can make any study sesh way more enjoyable. While not as quiet as our other options, this part of the HUB provides proximity to the lawn for when it’s time to get some energy out.
