Former Penn State Hoops Signee Carey Booth Commits To Notre Dame

Former head coach Micah Shrewsberry’s pull to South Bend is strong.

Former Penn State men’s basketball signee Carey Booth is officially heading to Notre Dame after announcing the news on Instagram Tuesday afternoon.

“I chose to follow Coach Shrews to Notre Dame because I feel like it’s a unique opportunity to grow under one of the best minds in basketball and in one of the NCAA’s toughest conferences,” Booth told On3. “With these two things in mind, it made it a pretty easy decision to follow him.”

The four-star power forward requested his release from the Nittany Lions just one day following the reported announcement of Shrewsberry’s hiring at Notre Dame on March 22.

Booth, the son of Penn State hoops legend Calvin Booth, boasted a four-star status as a recruit, according to 247Sports, and ranked as the fourth-best prospect out of New Hampshire. Moreover, the 6’10” power forward was the No. 18-ranked player in his position from the Class of 2023.

Booth committed to Penn State in August 2022 over offers from Vanderbilt, Purdue, Michigan, Miami, and over a dozen others. At the time of his commitment, Booth ranked as the second-highest-rated recruit in Penn State history behind Tony Carr.

Booth will join once-fellow Nittany Lion signee Braeden Shrewsberry at Notre Dame, who officially announced his commitment to the Fighting Irish Monday afternoon. The final signee from the Class of 2023, Logan Imes, has yet to make a decision on his landing spot after requesting his release from Penn State on March 28.
