Penn State Alumna Linda Yaccarino Named CEO Of Twitter

Linda Yaccarino, a 1985 Penn State graduate, will serve as the next CEO of Twitter, as announced by Elon Musk Friday.

Yaccarino will step into the role in about six weeks.

Yaccarino most recently worked as the chairman of global advertising and partnerships at NBCUniversal. She managed over $12 billion in revenue while leading NBCUniversal’s international, national, and local advertising sales and partnerships.

Musk shared the news that he hired a female CEO of Twitter on Thursday, and Yaccarino officially announced her resignation from NBCUniversal Friday morning.

According to Musk, Yaccarino will head business operations, while he’ll continue prioritizing product design and new technology in an executive chair and chief technology officer role.

Though Musk once tweeted that he dislikes advertising, that’s exactly the expertise Yaccarino has to offer Twitter. She’s worked in advertising at NBCUniversal for nearly 12 years and served as the chief operating officer of advertising sales for Turner Broadcasting Systems until 2011.

Yaccarino graduated from Penn State in 1985 with a degree in telecommunications and was named an Alumni Fellow in 2011. She continues her involvement with the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications, has served as a commencement speaker, Distinguished Alum.
