Penn State Hoops To Take Bahamas International Tour

Update, June 1:

Penn State men’s basketball’s opponents for its international exhibition matches in the Bahamas were announced Thursday, June 1 ahead of its August excursion.

The Nittany Lions will challenge the Bahamas national team at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 8, followed by a contest against the University of Victoria at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 10. Both games will take place at the Baha Mar Convention Center in the 2023 Baha Mar Hoops Summer League.

Penn State men’s basketball is beach bound.

Head coach Mike Rhoades and the Nittany Lions will travel to the Bahamas for a weeklong foreign tour and at least two exhibition games from August 6 to 13 ahead of their first season under Rhoades.

Penn State’s exhibition opponents will be announced at a later date.

“This valuable time to work and play together during a foreign trip will help us as we move into our first season together,” Rhoades said in a release. “The trip will allow us practice time prior to our departure and game experience that can set the tone as we move forward. We have many new players with a brand-new staff and the time together will hopefully create bonds and relationships that we will value very much.”

NCAA basketball teams have the ability to travel on a foreign tour to play exhibition games every four years. Most recently, the Nittany Lions toured the Bahamas and played in two exhibition matches in 2017. Before that, Pat Chambers and Co. jet set to Belgium, France, and England in 2013.
