Happy Valley Hoopers Announce ‘The Basketball Tournament’ Schedule

Penn State men’s basketball is back, ~kind of~.

Happy Valley Hoopers, a Penn State hoops alumni team organized by Penn State men’s basketball alum John Harrar, announced the bracket for its “The Basketball Tournament.”

The Happy Valley Hoopers will kick off their tournament run at 3 p.m. on Monday, July 24, as they compete within the Syracuse regional side of the bracket. Their game against The Nerd Team will air on ESPN+. Should they win over The Nerd Team, the Nittany Lion alums will face their next opponent at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26.

Thus far, the Happy Valley Hoopers roster consists of Harrar, Myles Dread, Sam Sessoms, Curtis Jones Jr., Jamari Wheeler, Taylor Nussbaum, Trent Buttrick, Mike Watkins, John Reaves, and Shep Garder. Former Penn State men’s basketball assistant coach Ross Condon will manage the team, while Bo Waggoner will serve as assistant coach.

“The Basketball Tournament” is an annual tournament made up of 64 teams that compete in a single-elimination bracket in a similar style to the NCAA Tournament. Teams are divided into regional tournaments before competing in championship rounds, which will take place in Philadelphia at the Daskalakis Athletic Center this year. The tournament includes a $1 million winner-takes-all prize.
