Bicyclist Dies After Striking Vehicle In State College

A State College resident died Monday, July 24, while bicycling after abruptly exiting the separated bike path on South Atherton Street and colliding with a vehicle traveling northbound, according to the State College Police Department.

The 70-year-old bicyclist was ejected from the bike upon impact and was pronounced dead at the scene despite receiving life-saving aid from medical personnel.

The driver of the northbound vehicle was identified as a Centre County resident and was not injured in the collision. Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to be involved in the crash.

The accident took place around noon Monday in the 3500 block of South Atherton Street.
