Eisenhower Parking Deck Evacuated Due To Sinkhole

Update, 2:32 p.m.:
Penn State’s messaging service alerted folks at 2:28 p.m. that the University Police and Transportation Services staff will begin escorting Eisenhower Parking Deck permit holders out of the garage due to an “urgent situation.”

“Anyone currently parked inside Eisenhower Deck must meet at the lawn just south of Millennium Science Complex beginning at 2:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, Aug. 16),” the message read.

Some vehicles may be unable to be removed due to safety concerns, and those vehicles will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

Eisenhower Parking Deck permit holders can park in any other on-campus parking deck or the commuter lots for the remainder of the day, according to the release.

Original story:
The Eisenhower Parking Deck and Eisenhower Road are closed due to a sinkhole in the area, according to a Facebook post from Centre County Emergency Alerts and Information.

Penn State’s emergency alert system sent messages at 11:40 a.m. and 11:55 a.m. that Eisenhower Road is closed and to avoid the area around the Eisenhower Parking Deck.

Per the Centre County Emergency Alerts and Information post, the garage is being evacuated due to the sinkhole and conditions are “hazardous.”

The Eisenhower Parking Deck is located between the Student Health Center and the Eisenhower Auditorium, while Eisenhower Road runs between Shortlidge Road and Bigler Road.
